At Plextal we are motivated by a
vision of an open marketplace of new and powerful connectivity-enabled
experiences that simplify and enrich people’s lives, ushering in the
Digital Life. The foundation of this Digital Life is a robust,
high-speed, IP network with universal reach and accessibility, made possible
through a combination of declining costs, and increased functionality of
networks, wireless devices, processors, storage, high definition
displays, and other consumer electronics and business devices.
Digital Life will
have an impact people have not experienced since the invention of the telephone,
television or the Internet. Digital Life will
significantly boost productivity, enhance communication, and improve how
education, public and governmental services, healthcare, and entertainment are
provided.
Digital Life experiences are
characterized by:
Convergence of
world knowledge, entertainment, content and communication services into the IP
network.
Integration and
auto-federation among different device types: Historically, consumer devices
such as PCs, TVs, phones, audio systems, gaming consoles, alarm systems, and
lighting systems have been stand-alone devices providing fixed functions with
zero or minimal connectivity. In Digital life, devices will be on the same
network speaking IP as the lingua-franca and auto-federating to deliver
integrated user experiences. A phone might sense an IP-connected TV in the
vicinity and offer a video connection to augment the conversation.
Location
transparency of services: Services will be
accessible anywhere (home, office, school, hotel, airport, car), from any device
(phone, TV, Computer); started at one location, and resumed at any other
location. For example starting a movie at home and resuming it in your hotel
room. Just as email and web surfing are already universally
location-transparent, Digital Life will make telephony, radio, video and other
services location transparent.
